Or I shall say, the day the human race falls...... Soon?
Looking at the rate of occurrence of natural disasters lately, do they worry you? First, Haiti. Then Chile, Mexico, China...... And today, Western Australia. It is only middle of April in year 2010.
Something is going on inside our Mother Earth. No one has come forth to tell the world what is happening, not even the scientists. But one thing I do know, that the earth is very sick now. We can only blame ourselves for not taking the responsibilities to take good care of our only HOME.
Sigh...... What's the point to rant here seeing that it's not going to make any difference. For sitting here, typing on the keyboard that is plugged in to the computer, which consumes energy that is drawn from the earth, and emitting heat that adds to the global warming... I too, am doing damage to the earth.
People, it is time we do our part to revert the situation, before it is all too late.
Have you watched HOME? A documentary by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Please spare some time to watch it. It is only 1 and a half hours long. You will then realize how selfish and ignorant we have been.

The most anticipated movie is finally here. I personally think that most of us love all these armageddon movies. Guess deep down inside, there's this part of us wanting to look for some comfort and heroes-of-the-day in the movies.
When I saw that man in the movie, I thought "can't be him, he's not this old and fat". I managed to convince myself that it is NOT him in 2012 movie. Didn't look at the cast and credits at the end of the movie, I finally checked out the cast on the web. Gosh, it IS him in the movie!!! John Cusack!!! When did he become so fat and old?! I still remember the lean and charming John Cusack in "Being John Malkovich" and "Con Air". But now...... :( Of course we all grow old, and Con Air was 10 years ago. Sigh...... I myself am fat and old too. Hahahaha......
The movie, I guess it did leave some impact in all of us who watched it. If I remember it right, there was a news about the rich will be travelling to the space in some space craft. It's going to be some kind of "vacation trip". There's a price to it, only the filthy rich can afford it. I wonder if it is something similar to the arrangement in 2012 movie. I just can't help but think that way.
The only thing I think differently from the movie plot is, the destruction of mankind would not be caused by some solar flare. We are the ones who bring the end of the day upon ourselves. The depletion of resources, the global warming, the imbalance of food chain...... Just like what has been shown in the video HOME which I've blogged about earlier.
With all these cataclysm movies going on, supposingly it should create some kind of awareness among us. But look around us, not many of us are bothered with the environment. People are still taking things for granted, that the mother Earth could never go empty or sick.
It is so easy for us to start that little step that could make a big difference. Don't use plastic bag when you go shopping, recycle the plastic bottles, don't print your documents if it could be read on the computer, off the lights or switch off the appliances that are not in use, wash your clothes in bulk...... The list could go on and on. How many of us are really aware of doing them in our daily lives?
Sometimes I feel helpless when I see the people around me wasting the resources without feeling guilty or remorse. They normally shrug it off with a reply "never mind lah". Sometimes, I myself have forgotten too. Holding a plastic bag in my hand and realised it only much later, often left me with a tinge of regret.
Heard both a not-so-good and god-damn-good review from 2 friends on the movie.
I was in fact very interested in the movie when I saw its preview, so was Andrew. But we decided to watch it a bit later when the ticket is cheaper. :)
We went for District 9 last night. First 30 minutes of the movie, boring and disgusting. So much of talking that it bored us. I could see Andrew's "boring" face. Then it was disgusting seeing those aliens and human puking or dying. In fact, there were many disgusting scenes, definitely not for those faint-hearted people. Besides, foul language is flying everywhere in the movie!!
The movie went on quite well, the way it evolved towards the end of the movie. I think all of us feels sympathy towards the lead actor, Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copley). I was puzzled how the hell that the alien can understand our language and we understand them. Again, think. The aliens have been on earth for 20 years, living with us. Definitely we would have gotten used to their language, even when we can't speak theirs, we can understand. It works the same way when you live in a foreign place for 20 years. Don't tell me you can't understand that foreign language at all after 20 years.
It is indeed like one of my friends said, "the movie takes on a new different concept to portray the aliens". The story is told in a documentary way. It is the different perspective and point of view that left me thinking, what if we lost our mother earth and we landed on other planet that's having other life form than us? Will they treat us like how we treat the alien refugees in D-9? We call the other life form from other planet as aliens, we are equally aliens to them, aren't we?
It is so often that we think aliens are intruders, bad, attackers...... Well, when we first put our footprints on the moon, when we first explored the planet Mars, didn't that make us intruders too? We took the moon rock, we took the sand on Mars, aren't we bad too? We could also be deemed as attackers too if there were other life forms out there.
We are just some creatures inhabit the mother earth which happens to be a small insignificant planet of the solar system which is only a small part of the whole universe. So people, please take good care of our earth. It is the one and only place we have. Do your part before we all become refugees on other planet.
Sometimes unawaringly, we compare ourselves to people around us and we whine, complain and sulk that why our life isn't as good as others'.
We see people with our bare eyes, we look at them at the surface. But we hardly know what is going on with his or her life. Someone may appear to us as strong and cheerful, but when no one is looking, he or she could be as miserable as anyone else. I've seen people wearing all branded and stuffs, but do you know that they have a whole lot of debts to bear? I, may come off as rich or maybe earning pretty well. But do you know that I have a lot of debts too waiting to be paid off? I still appear as optimistic and happy, because that's what I want others to see me, instead of a sulking and gloomy-face Ashley. In fact, I am happy. It is only occasionally that I need to rant to let go of those frustrations.
Here is a video that one of my colleagues shared with me some time ago. My tears rolled uncontrollably while I was watching it. If you ever feel like your life is miserable and painful, please think again. At least you're having all the comfort in the world now sitting on a chair and reading my blog.
Please spare some time watching this video, it only takes about 7 minutes of your life to see the life of many suffering souls in this world. You may feel disgusting, but again, that is life. THAT is their life......
Have you seen how the children's eyes sparkle when they got their new toys? Those sparkles, are nothing compared to those eyes in the film.
I am grateful of what I have now. I am in debt because I can afford to be in debt. I am still alive today to walk the earth.
Last night, watched this special film on TV. I asked Andrew "what is this?" The film, tells us how we, human, are destroying our very own HOME with our own hands in a pace that we now can't reverse. Oh no, sorry, yes, it says that we can still reverse it, within 10 years that we MUST change the way we live.
10 years...... Do you know how long does it take to grow a tree that is big enough to shade us from the sun? Do you know how long does it take for an iceberg to form? What can we do within such short 10 years? Is the end of the world coming in 10 years time? Now people everywhere are so intensed in fighting the world economic crisis. It's been a long time I have not heard any of the world leaders mentioning about environmental acts.
Look at the weather now. I don't remember it was this hot last year this time. Can you believe that our climate and weather changed so dramatically that we can no longer forecast it?
It is a good one and it will certainly make you thinking deep what you have done that contributed to this clamatic change. And of course, I bet you will do as much as you can to help to save our Mother Earth, our one and only HOME.
Do it for the sake of your own children, for their future. Imagine this: to bring your own children to this world just to have them to witness a disaster which the parents brought to them. How sad is that.
A year ago, 12th May 2008, a richter scale of 7.8 earthquake happened in Wen Chuan, China. It was only 2 days later that the help managed to get into the town of Wen Chuan. The first rescued team travelled on foot for 1 day 1 night in order to get in there.
Can't believe it is a year from now. I am now watching this documentary on 8TV about the rescue and incidents happened there and then. I still cried. Children who lost their lives, they were still so small and young. There were even children who had to sacrifice their limbs in order to survive! Children who lost their parents, became orphan in one night. Parents who lost their children, what's left is only their school bags and memories. Gosh...... I just feel so sad now.
Can't stop crying watching it...... :(
A man under the concrete said, "I must be strong, I have to be strong, I can't disappoint those who love me, my wife is waiting for me. I need to survive."
They finally got him out after 7 hours of rescue. But he didn't make it. He hang on till the very last minute to get out but he didn't make it...... He was exhausted and the pain was too much...... He didn't make it......
